Wilma M. Wetschensky, 82, of Kansas City, KS, died Thursday, January 16, 2003, at the Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2003, at Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Kansas City Hospice Foundation, 1625 W. 92nd St., Kansas City, MO 64114-9756 or the American Heart Association, 6800 W. 93rd, Overland Park, KS 66212-1461. Wilma was born December 13, 1920, in Kansas City, KS, and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Washington High School in 1938, and was married to Andy Wetschensky for 45 years, who preceded her in death on October 18, 1985. Also preceding her in death were a sister, Margaret Smith and a brother, Gilbert Lynch.
Wilma was a member of Queens Garden Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church for 44 years. She played the organ, hand bells and was a dedicated member of the church choir. Wilma was always very active and involved in church activities and volunteer work.
Wilma became a member of the Bethel Memorial Ladies Auxiliary VFW 5851 in 1961. She was a past president and pianist for the auxiliary and was always a tireless volunteer for this organization. She was a partner with her husband in the family business, Andy's Excavating and for many years was head cashier at the Forum Cafeteria at Indian Springs and later at Wyandotte High School.
Survivors include three sons, Ed Wetschensky and his wife, Debbie, Parkville, MO, Dick Wetschensky and his wife, Karen; Kansas City, KS, and Jim Wetschensky, Kansas City, MO, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as an extensive nursing home family, church family and a multitude of friends.
Wilma's ever-present, beautiful smile and genuine display of love for family and friends will be dearly missed. Special thanks to Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center staff for their care and friendship. Services for Andrew Wetschensky, 73, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Porter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association. Mr. Wetschensky died Friday at Humana Hospital. He was born in Newton, Kan., and had lived in this area since 1936. He owned and operated Andy's Excavating Co., for 39 years. He was a life member of Local 101 of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a life member of the Bethel Memorial Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Wilma M. Lynch Wetschensky, of the home; three sons, Ed Wetschensky and Jim Wetschensky, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Dick Wetschensky, KCK; two brothers, Frank Wetschensky, KCK, and Michael Wetschensky, Holton, Kan.; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Graves and Mrs. Helen Witzke, both of Wichita, Mrs. Gertrude Sturd, Newton, and Mrs. Agnes Pisell, El Reno, Okla; and six grandchildren.
